By now most people have heard of the Nintendo Wii. Before last Christmas I hadn’t even seen one and wasn’t particularly interested—I’m not a big video gamer. I had heard about creating Mii characters and playing motion-based games like bowling, golf, tennis and boxing with a remote. You’ve probably seen the commercials with people flailing at imaginary opponents in front of their TVs.
Over the holidays, though, Wii consoles appeared everywhere: my sister received one, my best friend got one, and my aunt won one at a party. Suddenly I was surrounded by cartoon versions of family and friends competing in virtual sports. A few days and visits to five stores later, I became the proud owner of a shiny white box of fun.
And it really is fun. On New Year’s Eve we bowled for nearly eight hours straight—we couldn’t stop. If you play, you know exactly what I mean. My seven-year-old niece is especially good: she has a high score of 254 and consistently beats me. She likes to remind me of that.
We’ve had so much fun that I wanted to share the excitement, so I’m hosting a giveaway with a big prize.
The Wii:
Includes the Wii console, Wii Remote, Nunchuk controller, a disc of sports games, and all necessary cables.
Read on to learn how to enter for a chance to win.
Below are some of the Miis I created on the Wii for this giveaway.
And here are some Mii-themed cupcakes I made.
Entering is simple:
Pick Mii Out and Wii-n Giveaway:
- To enter for a chance to win the Wii, pick a Mii.
- Guess the letter that corresponds to the Mii character you think I use and leave that single choice in the comments section below. Choose only one.
- Be sure to provide a way for me to contact you (blog link or email) if you win.
- Deadline for entries is Saturday, January 24, 2009 at midnight.
- The winner will be announced on Sunday, January 25, 2009.
Note: The winner will be chosen at random using a random integer generator. To claim the prize, the selected comment must correctly identify which Mii I use. If the randomly chosen comment does not have the correct Mii, another comment will be chosen at random until a correct selection is found.
Have fun and good luck!

The cupcakes shown were made from a recipe in the February 2009 issue of Martha Stewart Living Magazine (a Christmas gift subscription from my mom). I used the one-bowl chocolate cupcake recipe—super easy and delicious. Thanks, Mom and Martha!
