We’re back with another Out of the Kitchen update! Here’s what we were up to in November.
I grabbed an aerial shot of Oreo crumbs in the food processor — a perfectly normal part of recipe testing. 🙂 On Saturday night we went black-light bowling. I beat Ryan by a few points, so the loser treated us to frozen yogurt. The lane next to us was full of intense bowlers; the dad kept coaching his adult kids and didn’t seem satisfied unless he saw a strike.
When I work from home on blog projects, I prefer comfy clothes. Those green pants do cause a tint in photos, though, so my quick fix was draping one of Ryan’s white T-shirts over the waistband. Maybe I need white sweatpants instead. I was bundled up — Minnesota winters taught me well — you can’t be too warm.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the shoot for cappuccino eggnog donuts. It looked dark until I set up white reflectors, which brightened the scene. And yes, even food bloggers eat boxed mac & cheese for dinner sometimes — paired with a toasted peanut butter and jelly bagel. I love the combo of mac & cheese with PB&J anyone else?
Pie fail. I kept this pie in the freezer, but it didn’t set properly. It tasted great, but I couldn’t use it for photos. I was digging through a mixed jar of sprinkles trying to find only the red ones — lesson learned: buy the right color sprinkles next time.
Nanny time is always fun. I bring a small mirror and whiteboard markers to entertain the kids — they love drawing on it. We also scored some new Christmas-y props for the blog; that red mug with the tiny white sweater is irresistible.
Sneak peek coming this week — it involves Oreos and eggnog! We still don’t have a couch; we’ve been couch-less since August. We went couch shopping for the first time last week. Here’s Ryan giving his “I want this one” face. That particular couch would need to be cut into pieces to fit through our living room door.
I like sending Ryan photos from shoots while he’s at work so he can see what I’m working on. I love his reaction to this one. Also, Krusteaz released a line of gluten-free mixes — I’d been hunting for them in stores for months, so Ryan surprised me by ordering a three-pack of their brownie mix. It’s delicious!
Two more sneak peeks: the photo on the left shows something super cute — can you guess what it is? 🙂 The photo on the right is another recipe you’re going to love.

Happy Thanksgiving from us to you!
