Gluten-Free Dairy-Free Chocolate Baked Oats Recipe

This Chocolate Baked Oats is an excellent recipe for meal prep. Ripe bananas and cocoa powder create a creamy, chocolatey base, while fresh berries add brightness. Make a batch at the start of the week and simply reheat portions when you’re ready to eat.

Chocolate baked oatmeal ingredients:

  • Sprouted gluten-free oats — Sprouted oats are easier to digest for many people. I buy a large bag at Costco.
  • Banana — Use a ripe banana for natural sweetness; mash or slice as preferred.
  • Mixed berries — Fresh strawberries or blueberries work best; frozen berries can release extra water.
  • Maple syrup — Used as the sweetener.
  • Coconut milk — You can substitute almond milk if preferred.
  • Cocoa powder — Use pure cocoa for a rich chocolate flavor.
  • Coconut oil — Keeps the bake moist.
  • Baking powder — Helps the oats rise slightly.
  • Eggs — Bind the mixture together.
  • Avocado oil spray — For greasing the pan.

Are oats paleo?

  • Strictly speaking, oats are not paleo since most paleo approaches avoid grains. Some people reintroduce oats in small amounts once their gut health improves. I personally enjoy them occasionally after years of being grain-free.

How to eat this

  • I prefer these oats warm. Reheat a portion in the microwave for about 20 seconds, then top with Beeya seeds, fresh berries, banana slices, and a drizzle of honey.
