Recently I was flipping through a magazine and paused at an article about defying age. Since I always joke about celebrating another 29th birthday, my attention was captured. The tips were familiar—smile, exercise, wear sunscreen—and then came the one I least wanted to see: eat less sugar. For someone with a serious sweet tooth, that can feel impossible.

Still, if trimming sugar helps me stay feeling and looking younger, I can make some compromises. That said, certain dessert combinations are nearly impossible to resist—salted caramel being chief among them. The sweet-and-salty contrast ruins my best intentions every time. Give me salted caramel brownie bites over worry about wrinkles any day.

Salted Caramel Snickers Fudge - adding candy bar chunks and sea salt makes this caramel fudge an irresistible recipe!

Not long ago I spotted salted caramel chips in the grocery store and, predictably, I bought several bags. I tasted a handful the moment I got home and knew they were trouble—tiny bites with the ideal sweet-salty flavor that kept calling me back. With more bags in the pantry, I started experimenting so the chips wouldn’t all be eaten straight from the bag.

My first batch became salted caramel chocolate chip cookies, which made a nice dent in the stash. Still, I had chips left and knew fudge would be a fun way to highlight them. Inspired by a caramel s’mores fudge I’d made before, I discovered that melting chips with a container of caramel frosting produces a smooth, creamy base for easy fudge.

To add texture and extra saltiness, I chopped up Snickers baking bites and folded most of them into the caramel mixture. The peanuts in the Snickers complement the salted caramel chips beautifully, creating layers of flavor and crunch. After pressing the remaining chopped bars into the top and sprinkling coarse sea salt, the fudge sets into an irresistible, bite-sized snack.

The result is dangerously good—rich, chewy caramel, pockets of chocolate and peanuts, and tiny flakes of sea salt that highlight the sweetness. My recommendation: make a batch to share. Give pieces away to friends, coworkers, or neighbors so the temptation won’t linger at home too long.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups salted caramel chips
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 (16 ounce) container caramel frosting
  • 1 (10 ounce) bag Snickers baking bites, chopped
  • Coarse ground sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Line an 8×8-inch pan with foil and set aside.
  2. Place the salted caramel chips and butter in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 1 minute.
  3. Remove the foil lid from the frosting and heat it for 1 minute. Pour the warmed frosting over the melted chips and stir until thick and creamy. Return to the microwave for an additional 10–20 seconds if needed to reach a smooth consistency.
  4. Let the mixture cool for a few minutes, then quickly stir in 1 cup of the chopped Snickers pieces.
  5. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and spread it evenly, taking care not to over-stir so the chocolate in the candy pieces doesn’t melt completely.
  6. Press the remaining chopped Snickers pieces into the top of the fudge and sprinkle a light pinch of coarse sea salt over the surface. Allow the fudge to set until firm, then cut into 36 squares.
