This festive margarita is perfect for Halloween gatherings. It’s bright green with a dramatic black salt rim for spooky flair.

Halloween is one of my favorite occasions to create themed drinks. In the past I’ve served fun options like polyjuice potion shots and butterbeer shots that guests loved.
This year I wanted a simple margarita that immediately reads Halloween. The result is a classic margarita turned neon green with a striking black salt rim.
My favorite finishing touch is the tiny jack o’ lantern garnish made from small mandarin oranges — they’re the perfect size and add a playful touch.
Ingredients

Margarita
- Tequila – Use a blanco (silver) tequila so the bright green color shows through. Good options include Patrón Silver or Espolón Blanco.
- Triple Sec – A standard orange liqueur for margaritas; any brand will work.
- Lime – Freshly squeezed lime juice is essential. Avoid bottled lime juice, which changes the flavor.
- Simple Syrup – A 1:1 mixture of sugar and water. Make your own or buy it premade.
- Salt – I used medium coarse black lava salt for the rim to create the Halloween look.
- Prism Powder – A small pinch of edible shimmer powder gives the drink its neon green color and a subtle sparkle.
Jack o’ Lantern Garnish
I used very small mandarin oranges and bamboo skewers to secure the garnish. I first tried an edible ink pen on the citrus skin but found it didn’t work well, so I drew the faces carefully and recommend keeping the decorated peel out of the drink if non-food-safe markers are used. You can also carve a face into a larger piece of orange peel for a different look.
