I am delighted to introduce Sara Sullivan and the beautiful new artwork she created for The Storied Recipe podcast.
I want to be honest about how uneasy I felt at the start of this project. As a white woman who often shares stories from people and cultures different from my own, and as the parent of both Black and white sons who appear regularly in my photography, I carried a lot of concern into the redesign. A prior exchange with a press outlet left me confused and guarded, and for a while I avoided promoting the show or pursuing a new visual direction. I discuss that experience more in the episode.
Before working with Sara, I wouldn’t have known what qualities to look for in a graphic designer. After this experience, I wish every client could work with someone like her. Sara guided me through a sensitive creative process that acknowledged my discomfort, encouraged honest conversations with my audience, and produced artwork that addressed every concern I brought forward. The finished design meets the criteria I set, resolves the issues I feared, and feels truly beautiful. It captures the spirit of this podcast, and I’m deeply grateful to Sara. I’m excited to share a bit about her work and process—welcome, Sara!
