Watermelon Spritzer made with gluten-free vodka — a perfect, refreshing drink for hot summer evenings!I received Stoli Gluten Free Vodka complimentary; there was no obligation to review it. It worked wonderfully in this drink.
Hot Summer Nights
Miami summers are famously hot — the kind of heat that follows you into the shower. Despite the swelter, people still head outdoors for beach days, barbecues and evening gatherings. Fresh watermelon is a summer staple, cooling and hydrating on a hot afternoon.
At a recent 4th of July cookout, a large bowl of cubed watermelon was passed around while kids swam and the grill hummed. As night fell, someone suggested soaking the watermelon in vodka, and the idea was an instant hit. The boozy cubes had great flavor, but I wanted something a little lighter and fizzy — so I turned that inspiration into a spritzer.
Watermelon Spritzer
I prefer light, refreshing drinks rather than strong cocktails — more juice with a splash of bubbly than the other way around. The spiked watermelon at the party suggested a simple spritzer that keeps watermelon front and center without overpowering the palate.
Stoli Gluten Free Vodka is made from corn and buckwheat, naturally gluten-free ingredients, and it provided a clean background note for the watermelon. If you’re avoiding gluten, this vodka is a good option; if not, any light vodka will do.
The Watermelon Spritzer is straightforward and quick to make. It highlights the natural sweetness of watermelon and the effervescence of a lemon-lime soda, with vodka added for those who want it. For children or anyone avoiding alcohol, omit the vodka — the mocktail is still delicious.
The Recipe
This spritzer uses just three main ingredients: watermelon, vodka and lemon-lime soda. I like to add a few mint leaves for color and aroma, but the drink needs no extra sweetener thanks to the fruit and soda. Adjust the vodka amount to suit your taste — this version is mild and very refreshing.
This simple, bright cocktail (or mocktail) is ideal for backyard gatherings, beach evenings or any warm-weather occasion. Enjoy!
